Abstract
Mária Ormos, historian and member of HAS, places the relationship of human beings and history at center stage. The lecture seeks to answer such basic questions as “What is history?”, “Who ‘makes’ history?”, and “Does history exist at all?”. Ormos goes on to question the role of a historian with the premise that absolute truth in history does not exist. Should we think that history leads to a goal of some higher standard? The lecture tries to answer these questions by referring to the main concepts of the philosophy of history as interpreted by Odo Marquard and Frances Fukuyama.
