Abstract

Perinatal and early childhood factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of some chronic adult disorders including hypertension, diabetes, obesity and allergy – warns Tivadar Tulassay, medical doctor and member of HAS. Prematurity can hinder the development of the kidneys, which could lead to a greater chance of high blood pressure in adulthood. Breast-feeding is essential and beneficial to the nutrition of newborns. Babies who are fed with mother’s milk for longer than one year are less likely to be obese or to contract infections, diabetes, hypertension or allergies. Urban life, extreme hygiene, unnecessary use of antibiotics, decreased frequency of infections and early sensitization all contribute to the immunopathogenesis of allergic diseases.
