Abstract
Régi tapasztalat, hogy egy új gyógyszer felfedezéséhez mintegy tízezer új vegyületet kell előállítani és megvizsgálni. Ez hosszú és költséges folyamat. Az előadás egy viszonylag új magyar tudományos eredményt ismertet, amely azáltal aratott világsikert és terjedt el robbanásszerűen az egész világon, hogy több millió új vegyület előállítását tette lehetővé néhány nap alatt. A rendkívül egyszerű új eljárás alapvetően megváltoztatta a gyógyszerek és egyéb fontos anyagok kutatásának módszerét, és egy új tudományág, a kombinatorikus kémia kialakulásához vezetett. Az elmúlt évtizedben kifejlesztett kombinatorikus módszereket, melyeknek gazdasági jelentôsége is rendkívül nagy, ma már több tucat könyv és számos nemzetközi folyóirat tárgyalja. | In his lecture, Árpád Furka, professor of chemistry, describes the birth of a new branch of science. Furka has developed a simple synthetic solid phase method called the split-mix procedure, which makes it possible to prepare millions of compounds in a couple of days. The synthesized compounds include all of the structural variants that can be theoretically deduced from the structures of the starting materials. After the split-mix procedure’s publication, application of the method spread quickly, and brought about a revolution in drug discovery. This led to the foundation of a new branch of science: combinatorial chemistry.
