Abstract
The reader holds the third facsimile edition of the Kaufmann Haggadah manuscript (Kaufmann A 422). This is a special publication that cannot be regarded merely as a modern copy of a priceless manuscript, just as the original work was not considered a book on a shelf but served as a liturgical tool for passing on ancient traditions through generations on Seder nights. The richly illustrated original manuscript is part of the collection of David Kaufmann (1852, Kojetin – 1899, Karlsbad) and has been preserved by the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 1905, when the collector’s mother-in-law, Róza Gomperz, donated it to the institution “as property in perpetuity of the Academy and to make it available to the scientific world at home and abroad.”
